Sun City
Sun City is a 2 hour drive from Johannesburg. This resort, opened in 1979, had a reputation as a paradise for gamblers, but it is very much geared towards families. There is now an impressive water park, children's daycare facilities, an adventure playground, mini golf, a nightclub for teenagers and a cinema. The resort's atmosphere is more Disney than Vegas, but gambling is still an important part of Sun City.
There are now also four hotels plus some time share villas. The impressive five star hotel Palace of the Lost City with its eight towers stands tall above the whole resort. While Sun City is trying to pull in families, there are also two golf courses and a spa. There is also a lively bar and nightclub in the entertainment centre.
Just outside Sun City is the Pilanesburg National Park and you can take a 3 hour safari as an excursion. Pilanesburg is home to elephants, lions, rhino's buffalo and leopards. There are also plenty of other animals as well to watch. This 3 hour safari is a great introduction to going on a safari for children.
